Medical Details
In August 2018, Kalaiarasan started feeling a numbness on the left side of his face and a blockage in his left nasal-tract. After consulting an ENT specialist near his home, post examination; the Doctor informed that there was a small flesh-growth in his nose and that he needed to undergo surgery. The family took him to Apollo Hospital, Chennai; for surgery, it was here once he underwent a biopsy that he was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal-Carcinoma (NPC). The family consulted a Doctor at Manipal Hospital, to get a second opinion, where the cancer was re-confirmed. The family was informed about the line of treatment, post which; he began his treatment at Kumaran Hospital, Chennai. He underwent 7-cycles of chemotherapy and 3-cycles of maintenance chemotherapy along with radiation. After completing his treatment, he has been on his follow-up consultations once every three months and was doing well.

In September 2020, on his follow-up consultation, he underwent a PET-CT Scan, where the report showed the presence of tumor in the same place. The Doctor suggested that he needed to undergo chemotherapy again to control the growth. This time, however; after suggestions from the family they approached HCG Hospital and consulted Dr.Srinivas. After doing the needed tests, Dr.Srinivas has suggested that he needs to undergo 8-cycles of chemotherapy and 5-cycles of immunotherapy.
